2023/2024 Refreshers, CPR, and On The Hill

It is that time of year again when we must be thinking about the next ski season. The OEC refresher dates have been set. The dates are Sept 30, Oct 1, Oct 14, and Oct 15. The day starts with registration opening at 645 am and the refresher starting promptly at 745 am. Please get online and book your dates, the number of people allowed to attend each day is limited and we will not be adding more slots to the dates. Do not procrastinate.

The OEC refresher will start promptly at 0745 and finish at 1505. The CPR will start shortly after with the hopes we will be done by 1700.

Here’s a simple summary for the process:

  1. Sign up on nsp.org “center for learning” for the 2023 OEC Refresher Online Modules.
  2. Sign up on nsp.org “center for learning” for the 2023 OEC Refresher Skills Sessions.
  3. Signup on mypatrol.org for CPR skills and OTH
  4. Complete your online 2023 Patroller Waiver
  5. Print out your NSP Liability Form (sign it, bring it to in-person)
  6. Make sure you have a recent CPR certification – if not do that online, and email Tammy your certification. (These are good for 2 years, so if you did one last year you do not need to do it again this year.)
  7. Attend your in-person sessions!
  8. See you on the hill!

Detailed Instructions Below!

This year we are doing the Hybrid refresher again.

Registering for Online and In Person Classes on NSP.org

What does this mean? This means that each patroller will have to go the NSP website to do an online refresher course prior to coming to the practical portion on the hill. The online portion takes out the lectures from the day so that we can concentrate on the skills. This year you will need 3-4 hours to complete the online modules and you cannot register for a skills session until it is completed.

How do you access the online course? Do not wait till the night before and not know your login info!

1. Sign up on nsp.org “center for learning” for the 2023 OEC Refresher Online Modules.

a. You will log on to the NSP website on the home page you will click on Center for Learning.

b. Then click on the Browse Catalog.

c. There you can search by category Outdoor Emergency Care or you can type in the search box “2023 Refresher”.

d. You will find both the “2023 OEC Refresher Cycle C Online Modules”, and the “2023 OEC Refresher Cycle C Skills Session”. You will need to enroll in and complete the Online Module before you are able to enroll in the Skills Session class. When you are done with the Online module, you will not need to print out a certificate. The IOR will be able to see your completion when your register for the skills portion.

You must complete the online portion before you can register for the Skills part of the refresher. There is a limit of 100 people for each day of the skills session. We will not allow the number to go over, so plan ahead and get the online portion done and the date reserved that you would like.

There is no workbook this year!! Yay!

2. Sign up on nsp.org “center for learning” for the 2023 OEC Refresher Skills Sessions.

a. To register for the skills portion of the OEC refresher follow steps a-d from above and click the “Enroll” button for the Skills Session.

b. Now you need to find the Alpental sessions. Use the Filter button to filter down to just Alpental.

c. Click the “location” and you’ll see a giant list of unsorted names, it’s the worst UI you’ve ever seen… really… don’t be alarmed… you can find Alpental in there.

d. After spending days carefully searching this list, you eventually find “Alpental” and select it, then click the “Filter” button and it will filter down to just the Alpental in-person refresher days.

e. Choose your date and don’t forget to scroll down to the bottom to click “Submit”

CPR will be offered on the same day as the OEC Refreshers and the On the hill refreshers. The CPR is not part of the OEC refresher.

This will be offered after the completion of the OEC Refresher. It will be limited to 32 people each day. It will take approximately 1.5 hours. We will start immediately following the refresher. Sign up for your CPR refresher the mypatrol.org website and follow the instructions. You will only be able to register yourself. If you cannot access this website, contact your patrol director.

CPR (certifications) cards are good for 2 years. So please look at your date of your card to see if you are due this year to do the full class. But everyone must refresh their skills yearly per the NSP.

Most people only did the skills refresher last year, so you will most likely need to renew your certification for CPR so you will need to do the online class prior to coming โ€“ please use this link to purchase the online class https://shopcpr.heart.org/heartcode-bls
The cost is $32.50

Once you complete the online course, please email your completed certificate to Tammy Ross at tammy.rosscentralskipatrol@gmail.com – Please put in the Subject line โ€“ your name and Date of the CPR refresher you will be attending. If you want to print it out and bring it with you that will work as well.

You will not need a mask this year โ€“ we have purchased training masks with disposable mouth pieces for everyone to use.
